Know Your Law Library: Study Aids Collection!

The Charlotte School of Law Library’s collection of Study Aids moved last spring.  In the past, these materials were behind the LUX desk, but now they are in a more convenient location….. Near the 5th floor copier/printer and across from the Research Zones in the REFERENCE section of the library.

The Study Aids Collection is on both sides of the short bookcase and will ultimately fill the shelving behind that used to hold the current periodicals. The pink cart holds books that have been checked back in and are available to be checked out again.

The study aids are arranged in Library of Congress Classification System (LC) order. To help find a particular topic, consult the sign on top of the bookcase for the call number.

studyaids2

The most recent editions of study aids can be checked out for 3 hours. These books have a bright green 3 Hour Loan sticker on them.

studyaids3

Older editions can be checked out for 3 days and have a blue sticker with the subject area like Family Law on the spine of the book.

studyaids4

Yellow dots are even older editions or less common topics and can be checked out for 28 days.

studyaids5

Although the study aids are much more accessible, they still need to be checked out from the Library User Experience (LUX) desk.  A reminder from the Students Rights and Responsibilities Manual (SSRM):

No student may engage in any activity that gains or is intended to gain an unfair advantage in any law school activity or academic matter, either on behalf of the student personally or for another. An unfair advantage is one that is not generally available to all students. It encompasses, but is not limited to, failing to return needed Library books or other resources, cutting articles from books or periodicals, misappropriating or hoarding Library materials.

Renewals. 3 Day and 28 Day study aids can be renewed one time. Renewals can be made in person at the LUX desk or by logging into the library’s catalog (link in OrgSync).

A New Location for Study Aids!

The Charlotte School of Law Library’s collection of Study Aids has moved!  Before they were behind the circulation desk, but now they are in a new location….. Near the 5th floor copier/printer and across from the Research Zones.

studyaids1

The collection is on both sides of the bookcase and any items to be re-shelved are on the pink cart in front. The study aids are arranged in Library of Congress (LC) order. To help find a particular topic, consult the sign on top of the bookcase.

This relocation allows students to browse for just the right study aid. Although the study aids are much more accessible, they will still need to be checked out from the new Library User Experience (LUX) desk.  A reminder from the Students Rights and Responsibilities Manual:

No student may engage in any activity that gains or is intended to gain an unfair advantage in any law school activity or academic matter, either on behalf of the student personally or for another. An unfair advantage is one that is not generally available to all students. It encompasses, but is not limited to, failing to return needed Library books or other resources, cutting articles from books or periodicals, misappropriating or hoarding Library materials.
