This Friday, September 20, marks the 49th year for Festival in the Park. This is the granddaddy of Charlotte area art and entertainment events. Every fall the Festival is held at Freedom Park which is the largest urban park in the city located at 1900 East Blvd.
There is something for everyone at the Festival and it is free to get in. Artists come from all over the country and from the world to exhibit their work. There are craftsmen making pottery, blowing glass, carving, weaving, you name it, it can be found at Festival in the Park. There is also a plethora of live music acts, dance performances, and street theater. And what would a festival be without food vendors, face painting, balloon artists, magicians, clowns, and caricaturists?
Festival in the Park is an experience and a great date night. Saturday night starting at eight pm, The Spongetones return for their annual gig at the park band shell. Below is a link for more information about the event. It is easy to get to the park by taking the Light Rail to the East/West Blvd. station and then catching a shuttle or bus to the park.
